Aerial Yoga Training In India

What Is Aerial Yoga?

Aerial Yoga, sometimes referred to as anti-gravity yoga, originated in New York. Now, it has worked its way back to the birthplace of yoga here in India. The practice of Aerial yoga offers us an incredible amount of physical and mental benefits. Because of this, the practice has spread all over the world. Aerial Yoga training combines the alignment and breathing exercises of traditional yoga asana practices with dance-like movement and postures, all while suspended in soft nylon hammocks.

While Aerial Yoga is a new and developing style of yoga asana practice, it has quickly become popular. There is a growing demand for teachers who can properly and safely instruct in this style. With the help of a hammock, gravity can be used to stretch and strengthen the body without over stressing joints or compressing your vertebrae. The health benefits of inversions can easily be achieved by those who are still developing their strength. Aerial yoga allows you to fly in the air, creating space in your body you didn’t know you had!

Aerial Hammock Yoga

A special hammock has been developed specifically for Aerial Yoga training and it can support up to 300 kilos of weight! Your hammock set consists of 2 carabiners, 2 support daisy chains, and Aerial fabric made of silk or nylon. The hammock can hang from a supported ceiling inside, or it can be hung outside using a tree or other stable support bars. 2 support chains can be adjusted to raise or lower the hammock depending on the user’s preference.

Supported by a hammock you will find ease and new depth in asanas that you found difficult or impossible to achieve on the your yoga mat. The hammock can be used to support the hips in forward bends and back-bends. It can act a as swing, becoming a base for numerous asana variations and warm up sequences. You can use the hammock similar to the rope walls used in Iyengar-style practices, looping the hammock around one foot as you develop and strengthen asanas like Dancer’s Pose and Big-toe Pose. In Savasana the hammock acts as a cocoon, wrapping the entire body and you take your final resting pose.
